Outing: Snowshoe Hike for Screech Owls at Allan

February 4, 2017

Event Information:

Once again we will try our luck to find a Screech Owl during an evening snowshoe hike hopefully lit by the bright moon. On this our 10th year of this hike the moon will be 56% full and should rise a few hours before the start of the hike – if the weather and clouds will cooperate we should have plenty of light. Depending on snow conditions this will be by snowshoe or possibly just hiking boots – we will work with what Mother Nature provides. The leaders will scout out the area the week before to see if we can find any Screech-Owl territories not to mention Great Horned Owls which may be on their nests this time of year. 5 years ago we hiked Allan Park Conservation Area for owls and had great luck!

We will meet at the Allan Park Conservation Area parking lot at 7:00 p.m. Allan Park is on Grey road #4 about half way between Durham and Hanover. The Conservation Area is 2 km south of Allan Park. Carpool wherever possible.

Call Jerry Asling 519-364-2608 or John Reaume 519-334-9861 to pre-register and find out about snow conditions.
