Meeting: The Human and Natural History of the Kinghurst Forest Nature Reserve

May 15, 2017

Event Information:

In 1997 Howard Krug, a founding member of the Saugeen Field Naturalists Club, willed the Kinghurst Tract to the Federation of Ontario Naturalists (now Ontario Nature) as a nature reserve. We, Saugeen Nature, assumed responsibility as the local stewards. In addition to doing a lot of work we have enjoyed numerous outings there. The reserve includes one of the last best examples of upland old-growth hardwood forests in southwestern Ontario. Clarke Birchard, the speaker for this meeting, will review the history of the property and discuss some of its many special features.
