Karst is a system of topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone or dolomite. Characteristic features include underground drainage with sinkholes, caves, and springs. There are many examples of karst topography near the escarpment in Grey and Bruce Counties, with the Wodehouse karst as one of the most interesting.
We will visit the locations where Wodehouse Creek disappears underground except at flood levels, and where it re-emerges as Bill’s Creek part way down the escarpment.
The hike will be moderately challenging, with steep sections and almost guaranteed mud.
Meet in Markdale in a parking lot across the street from the Fire and Ice Restaurant in the Old Firehall. We will car pool from there.
