On a pleasant sunny evening on May 22 seven members hiked the Sugar Bush Trail at the Allan Park Conservation Area.
To get to the trail we went through some coniferous plantations before we got to the main hardwood trail. There was very little breeze and temperatures between 23 and 20 degrees. Biting insects were not a problem.
It was great to hear the Wood Thrush singing in several places as we walked in the hardwood section. The Wood Thrush is a declining species. The following birds were seen or heard.
Ruffed Grouse
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Eastern Wood Pewee
Great Crested Flycatcher
Blue Jay
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
Wood Thrush
American Robin
European Starling
Yellow-throated Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Ovenbird
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Chipping Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
