Prior to the regular June meeting of the Board a review of ongoing activities took place, with an eye to identifying goals for the coming year. The session looked at what is working well, what needs improvement, and what needs arise from this.
The review was valuable in that it showed a club that already has a lot of very positive actions and activities. At this time, when the group is functioning well is a good time to look at building on success, rather than waiting on small challenges to turn into big problems. We see a future for the club to grow and become more dynamic.
From the June session two goals were identified:
Marketing and Financial – To grow membership numbers by 10 in 1 year.
Marketing and Leadership – To fill the 2 empty seats on the Board for the next AGM.
While the Board provides leadership to the club, we recognize the valuable contributions of all members, in knowledge and leadership, in outreach and publicity, and in carrying out the regular functions of outings and meetings.
With this in mind we have started working toward the goals already by encouraging club members to bring a friend to meetings. Board members are actively seeking new people to sit on the board, and developing action plans toward achieving both goals.
Looking Ahead
Ultimately, the Board decided to go one step further and do a broader strategic review beginning this fall. At the second planning session we started to identify major trends in our environment and how they will affect the club. We reviewed what trends are taking place in five segments; Society, Politics, Economy, Environment and Technology. We will look at how these trends will affect what Saugeen Nature stands for and what we do as a group. The next step is to determine how the club will prepare to respond to the changes that impact us.
As we move through this process we will share actions and progress with the members and seek input on future discussions as well.
