Val Droog
On January 18, 2014, the Junior Naturalist Club participated in a snowshoe hike on John and Nancy Reaume’s property, just east of Mount Forest. After fitting the children with a backpack and snow-shoes, we began our adventure with our scavenger list in our hands. Because of the recent snowfall, it was difficult to track the many animals on our list. However, the children were able to identify multiple trees and interesting sights, including marks left by Yellow Bellied Sapsucker and quills left by a porcupine. We also had the opportunity to check out the sleepy bees hibernating in bee hives implanted within the property. After numerous stops to munch on tasty snacks and to make snow angels in the snow, our hike concluded after approximately 2 hours. The winner of our scavenger hunt, Bradon Newman, took home a wonderful book to practice tracking at home. Special thanks to John and Nancy Reaume for allowing us to enjoy their lovely property.
