Meeting: Marsh Monitoring

March 16, 2020

Event Information:

Ian Ockenden will speak to us about this Bird Studies Canada run citizen science program. Marshes all over Ontario are threatened by development, either directly through loss of wetlands, or by noise and air pollution from surrounding human activities. BSC has set up a program where volunteers visit one or more local marshes on a regular basis and determine frog and waterbird activity, mostly by listening for calls. The data is collected over the spring months from March to June and then sent in to BSC for collation and analysis. Results are shared with participants and the general public, and used to set up programs for remediation and restoration.
