Outing: Adventure Along Wodehouse Karst

October 5, 2019

Event Information:

Flooded and rained out in the spring, we’re offering a Wodehouse Karst hike in the fall. Karst Topography forms when water dissolves soluble rock to form underground passage-ways, sometimes caves. Many examples can be found along the length of the escarpment. At Wodehouse, the creek disappears into cracks and sinkholes except during abundant spring runoff, only to reappear, sometimes in torrents, partway down the escarpment. Our hike will be to the sinkholes and then to the emerging streams of Bill’s Creek.
Count on a few steep sections, about 4km. Wear sturdy footwear. Perhaps some mud if preceded by rain.
A walking pole is beneficial.
Meet at 1:30, Markdale, at the parking lot across from Fire and Ice (the old fire hall). Pre-register with Angus Inksetter, 519-364-3331 or angus.inksetter@gmail.com
