Event Information:
Once again we will try our luck to find a Screech Owl during an evening snowshoe hike hopefully lit by the bright moon. On this our lucky 13th year of this hike the moon will be 52% full and should rise several hours before the start of the hike – if the weather and clouds will cooperate we should have plenty of light. Depending on snow conditions this will be by snowshoe or possibly just hiking boots – we will work with what Mother Nature provides. The leaders will scout out the area the week before to see if we can find any Screech-Owl territories not to mention Great Horned Owls which may be on their nests this time of year. Last year we heard 2 different Screech-Owls and the year before that we even had Saw-whet owls calling – at the very least a winter snowshoe hike by moonlight will be an unforgettable experience!
Meet at 7:00 p.m. at the more southern parking lot off of Schmidt Lake Road at the Schmidt Lake Lookout Trail. Carpool wherever possible.
