Snowshoe Hike for Screech-Owls

February 8, 2025
18:30

Event Information:

Once again we will try our luck to find a Screech-Owl during an evening snowshoe hike hopefully lit by the bright moon. On this our 18th year of this hike the moon will be 73% full and should rise several hours before the start of the hike – if the weather and clouds will cooperate we should
have plenty of light. Depending on snow conditions this will be by snowshoe or possibly just hiking boots – we will work with what Mother Nature provides. The leaders will scout out the area the week before to see if we can find any Screech-Owl territories not to mention Great Horned Owls
which may be on their nests this time of year. We find owls about half the time that we do this hike but we always have a wonderful evening hike….hopefully with the moonlit snow providing ideal circumstances for seeing the owls.

Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Parking Lot in Durham off of Queen Street. We will plan to carpool from this location to our actual event site which is approximately 20 min north of Durham at the property of a private residence where parking is limited.

Pre-register via our website @saugeenfieldnaturalists.com will be necessary to coordinate the carpooling. The leaders will also let the registrants know about snow conditions etc. and should there be any last minute cancellations due to weather etc.

Please fill out the form below to register for this event.
