The Order of Birds
Event Information:
All our routine indoor meetings are at the Grace United Church in Hanover and begin at 7:30 pm.
James Turland is a knowledgeable and passionate birder who has spent years sharing his time and expertise with others. He leads hikes for the Bruce Birding Club and the Huron Fringe Birding Festival, serves as compiler for the Kincardine Christmas Bird Count, and contributes to several bird research projects. His enthusiasm and dedication have made him a valued member of our local birding community.
Based in Kincardine, James specializes in local birds, presenting them in their taxonomic order from the rare to the familiar species you might see in your own back yard. Learn which birds have been newly added to the county checklist and discover the many health benefits of birding.
Thanks to apps like ebird and Merlin, birding has evolved from a quiet pastime into one of the fastest-growing outdoor activities. Find out how you can upload your sightings and contribute to the world’s largest citizen science project.
Join James as he shares stories from his adventures building a county bird list — and hear how one mysterious “LBJ” (Little Brown Job) turned him from an NB (non-birder) into a lifelong enthusiast.
