Spring—Summer 2021

COVID-19 EDITION

From the President

A year ago I was preparing an address for the AGM. In it I discussed all the things the club had accomplished in 2019-2020, the meetings, speakers, outings, junior naturalists, outreach and education, work in support of conservation at the Kinghurst Forest Nature Reserve and through donations to other organizations. It all came to a halt when COVID-19 arrived and we cancelled the AGM and all other meetings, and even the outings remaining through the spring of 2020.

Since last summer your board has reintroduced outings, the Christmas bird count was held, and now we are organizing a virtual Annual General Meeting for all who are able and who wish to attend. Details are pending, but there is an important point for members to consider: if you wish to still have a nature club when COVID-19 eases away, please renew your membership now. Although we cannot hold in-person meetings, outings are being offered, on-line speakers and information are available, and the club continues to have expenses such as insurance, a post office box, printing, and so on. In addition to maintaining the club’s presence, your paid membership will enable you to cast your vote on business and other matters at the AGM. In order to have a strong club emerge from the pandemic, full of interest and community activity, I urge all members to renew their memberships as soon as possible.
