Clarke Birchard receives Prestigious Award

On November 15, 2016 in Alliston, Clarke will receive one of four Latornell Leadership Awards presented every year to people who have done extraordinary things for the natural environment. For those of you who may not know this, Clarke was instrumental in setting up and developing the program for the Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre for Bruce County Board of Education. Over the years, thousands of students (every student in the Bruce County education system, and later many students from Grey County) were directly or indirectly influenced by Clarke’s love of and dedication to, the natural world. Clarke was also an educator of teachers in Ontario, many of whom learned to teach about the natural world from him.

Clarke was also very active in what is now Ontario Nature, as a member and then leader of the Nature Reserves Committee, as well as a member of the Board. He was a driving force for the establishment of the Kinghurst Nature Reserve as well as the Malcolm Bluff Shore Reserve on the Bruce Peninsula.

Please join the board of Saugeen Nature in congratulating Clarke as he is recognized for his contributions by Conservation Ontario, the association of Conservation Authorities in Ontario.
