The Carden Plain east of Orillia is a large limestone plain of shallow soils interlaced with wetlands, woodlands and active cattle ranches. This rare alvar habitat is home to many rare species of animals and plants and is home to one of the best places in Ontario to see the endangered Loggerhead Shrikes. Photos by Jerry Asling.
