Outing: Maple Sugar Moon Festival at Grey Roots Museum with afternoon hike Inglis Falls
Event Information:
Please join us on this early spring event near Owen Sound. First we will start with a tour of the Grey Roots Museum & Archives during their Maple Sugar Moon Festival. We will learn how the Anishinabe people harvested and made use of one of Mother Natures greatest gifts – maple sugar. In addition to learning about the knowledge of the First Nations people and the early European settlers we will have the opportunity to sample this prize with a pancake and maple syrup lunch. After spending a few hours at the museum we plan to head over to nearby Inglis Falls Conservation Area and explore some of their trail network. The weather can be interesting at this time of year so who knows what is in store for us. Bring your binoculars and sense of adventure and we will see what the early spring has to offer at this popular waterfall where the Sydenham River meets the edge of the Niagara Escarpment before plunging down 18 metres into the gorge at the base of the falls.
Please call Jerry Asling (519-364-2608) or John Reaume (519-334-9861) to register and we will see about possible car pooling. There is an entrance fee to the museum currently at $8/adult and the pancake lunch would be extra. There is also a parking fee at Inglis Falls (currently at $4 per vehicle). The museum event starts at 11:00 a.m. and we would aim to arrive by that time with the anticipation of spending a few hours there before moving over to Inglis Falls. The Grey Roots Museum & Archives is located at 102599 Grey Rd.18 just south of Owen Sound (if heading north on Hwy 6 you would turn left/west on Grey Road 18 when you reach the intersection at Rockford).
